BALKAN SEED FESTIVAL
As Part of the 9th Kastoria Festival of Ecological Agriculture and Handicrafts Kastoria, Greece | 29–30 August 2026

As part of this year-s 9th Kastoria Festival of Ecological Agriculture and Handicrafts, the 1st Balkan Seed Festival will be held—a pan-Balkan celebration of seeds, agriculture, and agricultural biodiversity. The Balkan Seed Festival is jointly organized by the newly established Balkan Seed Network, which brings together 12 seed organizations from eight countries (Greece, Albania, North Macedonia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Romania, and Austria), together with AEGILOPS and OIKOTROPIO Kastoria, the main organizer and host of the 9th Kastoria Festival of Ecological Agriculture and Handicrafts. The Festival aims to bring together farmers, seed custodians, gardeners, and citizens to exchange experiences and practices related to agrobiodiversity and the common, rich agricultural heritage of the Balkan countries. At the same time, it seeks to send a strong message of peace, harmonious coexistence, friendship, and cooperation among the people of the Balkans.
The Festival also aspires to promote a sustainable, agroecological, and dynamic approach to the conservation and management of plant genetic resources, with particular emphasis on community seed banks and the vital role of small-scale farmers as custodians of biodiversity and guardians of food security and food sovereignty. The programme will include workshops, presentations, tasting, seed exchange activities, and, of course, live Balkan music, all harmoniously integrated into the wider programme of the 9th Kastoria Festival of Ecological Agriculture and
Handicrafts.
We look forward to welcoming you to Kastoria!
