The DiverSeedPaths project is pleased to announce the release of its booklet, Capacity Building on European Seed Policy and Legislation, a resource designed to empower farmers, seed savers, policymakers, and civil society organizations with a comprehensive understanding of EU seed legislation and its implications for cultivated biodiversity.
The booklet is the result of a collaborative effort led by member of the Balkan Seed Network Association – Aegilops, the European Coordination Let’s Liberate Diversity! (ECLLD), and Réseau Semences Paysannes (RSP), co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union. It provides an accessible guide to the institutional framework of
EU policymaking, the EU seed marketing reform, and strategies for advocating for diversity-friendly seed legislation.
In an era of increasing regulatory changes, understanding seed policy is crucial for ensuring that farmers, community seed banks, and biodiversity advocates can engage effectively in shaping legislation that impacts seed diversity. The booklet highlights:
• The structure of EU policy making and legislative processes
• Key components of the EU Seed Marketing Reform and its implications
• Opportunities for advocacy to protect seed diversity and farmers’ rights
Through real-world examples, case studies, and actionable advocacy steps, the resource equips readers with tools to navigate the evolving EU regulatory landscape and champion resilient, biodiversity-friendly seed systems.
The Capacity Building on European Seed Policy and Legislation booklet is available for download in English, French, and Greek and links can be found in the following pdf:
